Which frequency band is better to use: 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz?

Most routers have a dual-band wireless network (Wi-Fi) access point - 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Such characteristics of the device make it possible to obtain greater coverage of the territory with a wireless signal. In a simple way, using a dual-band router, all devices (TV, tablet, phone, etc.) will be online without interruption.

 

What are the differences between the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands?

 

The main differences are the coverage area and data transfer rate. It depends on the flow of electromagnetic waves - at higher frequencies (5 GHz), the waves transmit a more sensitive signal to various obstacles in the room (wall, closet, mirror, etc.), but at the same time, a 5 GHz router copes with data transfer faster.

 

For high data transfer rates, we recommend using the 5 GHz band. This range is perfect for connecting a TV in the same room. That is, the 5 GHz frequency needs an unobstructed room. If the task is to cover a larger radius with a signal, switch to a frequency of 2.4 GHz. As practice shows, in a standard two or three-room apartment, a TV and a computer work on the 5 GHz band, and smartphones, tablets and other “small” equipment are connected to the 2.4 GHz band.

Which is the best dual-band router?
