What is artificial intelligence and its place in humanity?

Recently, Google, together with Ukrainian experts in the field of digital, prepared a course of lectures on the work of AI. Education is free so that everyone can understand this topic.
That's why people have more and more questions. How does artificial intelligence work? Who is using it right now? And is it capable of capturing humanity today?
You can't write about everything in one article. But today we will deal with the base - what is AI and what is its place in humanity?
What is AI?
There is artificial intelligence automating complex machines, managing servers or complex systems in cybernetics. But what people are interested in is generative artificial intelligence. Therefore, it will be discussed.
Generative artificial intelligence is a type of artificial intelligence that creates unique content based on a user request. For example, text for social networks, a picture, music or program code.
For example, Chat GPT and Mid Journey are the most popular generative AI among the general public. Sometimes the AI is built into an existing program. For example, the Notion notebook has an Open AI-based feature (the same one used by ChatGPT). And Microsoft has added AI to its browser to enhance search.
What is AI capable of today?
Artificial intelligence is very dependent on data. To come up with something new, from scratch, without relying on any data - generative artificial intelligence cannot.
Alexander Ruppelt - Data Science Team Lead at DataRobot, Head of Data Science at Projector - said: "Artificial intelligence is not afraid to be stupid, but afraid to be ignorant." Therefore, AI can publish non-existent facts: invent people or attribute regalia, achievements or experience to real people that they do not have.
For example, the paid version of Chat GPT can analyze pictures. You can send a photo of a phone with a dark display and ask "what's on the phone's screen?". Most likely, the chat will generate a fact from its database about what, in principle, can come to the phone: a message from a friend, breaking news, or something. But all this is actively developing. Therefore, the functionality and use are expanding rapidly.
The AI journey for the average user can be decomposed into 3 stages:
Games. First of all, where artificial intelligence appeared: for example, it replaced a player in chess.
Creation and generation. The same generative artificial intelligence. At this stage of development AI is now. We already have generators of music, pictures, texts of different quality and sophistication. Interestingly, the developer of Open AI (who made Chat GPT) started their journey with AI for a whole team of artificial Dota players. This is a very popular online game, which regularly hosts eSports competitions.
At this stage, AI helps people a lot to automate the routine part of the work, form instructions, and prepare presentations. Essentially, this is an artificial worker with no salary, flexible experience and empathy, but who is able to perform simple tasks quickly.
For example, in China they are testing an automatic valet car. This is a platform that automatically drives under the suspension of a car, and then looks for an empty parking space.
Face recognition, photo search, generation of those photos, photo and video processing is a common thing in the industry.
Unknown stage of development. Most of the activities of AI are not visible to ordinary users - these are the so-called exploits. That is a limitation for users. For example, Chat GPT will not tell you how to create explosives (we will write a separate article about exploits and who works with them and how). Therefore, users do not know all the details and the level of quality of work.
For example, OpenAI (the developers of Chat GPT) have suspended updating the next version of the chat - at the time of writing. GPT-4 will be the last for a while, says Sam Altman, CEO and co-founder of OpenAI.
Therefore, right now, AI is capable of much more than users can imagine.
How to use AI for work or personal development?
Personal effectiveness
This development: for example, the study of a language or a new profession. It is also productive: for example, planning, instructions for work, etc.
For example, Chat GPT can help you learn programming. You can ask him to check the code, find interesting algorithmic problems that you can solve using Python or JavaScript.
Google Bard can help you find something interesting and useful for you. But the service does not understand Russian or Ukrainian, so it will force you to practice English.
Any text AI can help automate the work. For example, send a large article and ask them to select important opinions from it.
Job
Artificial intelligence can quickly process and analyze data. For example, a merchandise store needs to calculate how many sales will be in the next quarter and whether it is worth buying new products right now.
Artificial intelligence D-ID is able to generate non-existent people and their performances. Looks like a real presentation. And there is also the function of adding photos, on the basis of which the intellect will prepare a performance. Anyone can upload their photo, sound and presentation and prepare a virtual performance. For example, for YouTube or a product presentation on a website.
Of course, AI can draw an image. Therefore, with the advent of Midjourney, everyone predicted the death of the profession of illustrators or designers. But it didn't work out that way. For example, the neural network could not cope with the display of fingers. In their place, eerie incomprehensible limbs were often found. So designers still need to significantly refine the image.
But the impact of image generation is still there. For example, you can quickly create dozens of concept art of game characters by theme, style, genre. And the designer will choose the best, finalize and that's it. This greatly speeds up the work.
The Future of Artificial Intelligence
Many criticize AI for thinking wrong or not being able to replace human thought processes. But the thing is, he doesn't need to. The thought processes of a machine are still quite primitive, but they already mimic decision making well. And in the future, AI will not think like humans either. They will do it their way.
For example, when a person wanted to fly for the first time, he tried to imitate birds and create machines that would flap their wings in the same way. But nothing came of it. The laws of aerodynamics said that it was necessary not to imitate a bird, but to find an alternative.
Today, a person can fly with the help of technology that is unlike anything in nature. It will be the same with AI: it will never think like a human. But over time, in a different way, it will begin to come to the same creative results.
